Agent 64: Spies Never Die Guide - Missions, Cyphers, Achievements & Fixes
Everything about Agent 64: Spies Never Die: the 14-mission campaign, the three difficulty modes, the Cypher system that gates each Act, all 11 achievements, and the EAC setting behind most stutter reports.
Agent 64: Spies Never Die is a retro first-person shooter built as a homage to the N64 console shooters of the late '90s. You play Secret Agent John Walter across a 14-mission campaign against arch-nemesis Dominic Pulp, hacking terminals, stealing plans and freeing hostages between firefights. It launched August 11, 2026 from Replicant D6 β a solo developer, self-published, after more than five years of work.
Version note: Written August 12, 2026 against the launch build, current through hotfix v1015. Sourced from the Steam store page and the developer's own patch announcements, the game's 11 Steam achievements and their global unlock rates (both of Steam's stats endpoints, cross-checked), official screenshots, and launch-day forum threads including several the developer replied to β all linked inline. We have not completed the campaign; anything drawn from player reports is labelled as such.

The Three Things New Players Get Wrong
1. Acts are not unlocked by finishing missions β they are unlocked by Cyphers. This is the single most-discussed thing about the game, and mostly in frustration. You cannot play the campaign straight through on one difficulty; the Act gates want Cyphers earned across different difficulty tiers and Contracts. The achievement data shows exactly how hard that wall hits: 94.9% of players entered Act 1, and 24.0% reached Act 2. Read Missions, Difficulty & the Cypher Gate before you plan a playthrough β the gate is much cheaper than the forum threads suggest, if you know which four Cyphers to take.
2. Higher difficulty is not just tougher β it is more game. Agent, Special Agent and 64 Agent each add objectives to the same mission and open areas the lower tiers never ask you to enter. The developer's own tip is to clear a mission on Agent to learn the geography, then climb. That also means a "completed" mission on Agent is not a finished mission.
3. If the game stutters, check EAC before you touch your settings. Multiple players independently report that frametime stutter disappears entirely when the game is launched without Easy Anti-Cheat, including one running at a locked 60 FPS with no dips. The developer's first question in that thread was whether the stutter persisted without EAC. Full detail in Fixes & Performance.
How the Campaign Is Structured
The 14 missions run across four Acts, and the mission list reads as a tour of spy-fiction sets: Penthouse, Tower, Castle, Mountain, Complex, Helipad, Museum, Nightclub, Catacombs, Temple, Vault, Elevator, Moon, Sanctum.
Each mission is a self-contained environment with an objective list rather than a corridor. On Agent you might destroy a set of door locks, grab an equipment case and reach an elevator; on Special Agent the same map adds a tracker to plant, and on 64 Agent it adds an explosive to defuse. The map does not change β your reason to visit its far corners does.
Museum, mission 7. Vertical spaces with balcony sightlines are the game's signature fight, and the reason enemies above you matter more than the ones ahead. (Screenshot: Replicant D6)
Beyond the Campaign
- Paradox Mode β 70+ modifiers and cheats unlocked by beating par times and other trials. Big Heads, Melee Disarms, Slow Bullet Speeds, No Reload and more. This is the game's version of the N64 cheat-unlock ritual, and it is where the par-time chase pays off.
- Contracts β remixed missions with different objectives and pre-set Paradox modifiers, which also feed Cyphers and further Paradox unlocks.
- Arena β up to 8 human players plus 8 bots online, or local split-screen. Deathmatch, Briefcase (hold it long enough to score, then it relocates), Zone (hold a point, contesting stalls the count) and Challenges (score targets against pre-set bots, faster wins earn better prizes). Lobbies take teams, weapon sets, rule sets and Paradox modifiers, with 10 saveable presets.

Where to Start
- Missions, Difficulty & the Cypher Gate β all 14 missions, how the three difficulty tiers change objectives, and the minimum path through the Act 2 gate.
- All 11 Achievements β every achievement with its global unlock rate, what the Act-progress numbers reveal about where players stop, and the three nobody has earned yet.
- Fixes & Performance β the EAC stutter finding, the launch-day hotfix timeline, Steam Deck notes, and the controller settings players are asking for.
FAQ
How long is Agent 64: Spies Never Die? Fourteen missions, each replayable on three difficulty tiers that add objectives rather than just raising damage. Because Act progression requires Cyphers earned across tiers, a single-difficulty run is not possible β plan on replaying missions as part of the intended path, not as optional cleanup.
Does Agent 64 have co-op? Yes, the full campaign is playable in co-op both locally in split-screen and online. Note the difference that matters for performance: online co-op requires Easy Anti-Cheat, local split-screen co-op does not.
Why does Agent 64 stutter even at 60 FPS? Several players report frametime stutter that vanishes completely when the game runs without Easy Anti-Cheat, and the developer has asked affected players to test exactly that. One player separately reports performance degrading over the course of a level, which the developer said he would investigate. See Fixes & Performance.
Is Agent 64 the same as the demo? No. A Steam demo has existed since 2021 and the game was in development for more than five years, gaining split-screen in 2023 and online multiplayer in 2025. Several forum posters note they had played the demo's first two missions extensively before launch.
Does Agent 64 support ultrawide monitors? Yes. Players confirmed 3440x1440 and 32:9 running correctly on the pre-release build and the developer acknowledged both, and no ultrawide complaints have appeared on the launch-week board.
