Tavern Legends Bugs & Fixes: Stuck Workers, Missing Bard & Patch Status

Current bug status for Tavern Legends 1.0: worker AI freezes and the developer's workarounds, the vanishing bard, performance drops, and what V1.0.2/V1.0.3 already fixed.

Last updated: 7/20/2026

Quick Answer: Tavern Legends hit 1.0 on July 17, 2026 and its solo developer shipped two hotfixes within 24 hours β€” V1.0.2 and V1.0.3 (both July 18) fixed villager navigation, the tavern-inspection crash, stuck main characters, and reservation achievements. Still open: the worker-AI freeze family (developer-suggested workarounds below), the vanishing bard (save/reload fixes it), and performance drops in full taverns, which is the single most common complaint in reviews. This page tracks all of it; last checked July 20, 2026.

Patch Status: What V1.0.2 and V1.0.3 Already Fixed

Both patches landed July 18, one day after release. Combined, per the official notes:

FixedPatch
Villager navigation problemsV1.0.2
Daily/inspection report stuck on screen while tool menu openV1.0.2
Gold bags detaching from chestsV1.0.2
The king getting stuck (and being extra disgusting about it)V1.0.2
Farting/diarrhea rate on tavern entry loweredV1.0.2
Inspector now actually moves around the tavern during visitsV1.0.2
Highscore board resetsV1.0.3
Main characters staying in place most of the timeV1.0.3
Tavern inspection report appearing on a failed inspection and causing a crashV1.0.3
Reservation achievements not unlockingV1.0.3
Plates clipping through big tableclothsV1.0.3

If you saw the inspection crash or frozen characters on launch day, update β€” those two were the headline day-one issues and both are in V1.0.3's notes.

Workers Freeze or Stand Around (Open β€” Workarounds Available)

Symptom: an employee stands motionless behind the counter or gets stuck outside, doing nothing while orders pile up. This is the game's best-known bug family, with reports across launch week and Early Access.

Developer-suggested workarounds (all from CROWFORGE's own forum replies):

  1. Reset button, workers tab β€” reset stuck workers one at a time, "so they don't get stuck inside each other."
  2. Toggle the "free" checkbox off and on β€” the worker re-registers the opening hours and goes to work.
  3. Check their pathing space. The developer's first question on any stuck-worker report: do they have room to walk to the equipment? Tight layouts around the bar and kitchen break AI routes β€” leave walking gaps.
  4. One player isolated a specific trigger: workers freeze on "going to the cabinet" trying to restock mugs β€” resetting the mug shelf frees them; failing that, save and reload.

Status: actively being worked on. One variant ("standing behind the counter the whole time") was fixed within hours of being reported β€” the developer replied "this will be fixed within the next hours" and shipped it; stuck-outside workers got the checkbox workaround plus a promise of improvement "in the next version."

The Vanishing Bard (Open β€” Save/Reload)

Symptom: after a market run before opening, the booked bard is nowhere in the tavern, but the booking screen still lists him as active ("running").

Workaround (from the reporting player): close the tavern, save the game, and reload β€” the bard state resets. The same save/reload reset is the community's general-purpose fix for misbehaving NPCs; multiple reviewers mention "a save and restart fixes bugs when they happen."

Performance: FPS Drops in Busy Taverns (Open, Top Complaint)

Symptom: stutters and significant FPS drops when the tavern fills with NPCs β€” reported by reviewers with high-end hardware, and the most frequent criticism across launch-week reviews ("this game shouldn't stress my CPU as much as CineBench does").

Status: no confirmed player-side fix. Optimization is the community's #1 ask for the post-1.0 roadmap. Two things worth testing meanwhile: the 1.0 setting for maximum number of active orders (fewer simultaneous orders = fewer active NPC tasks), and the per-tavern lighting settings if you suspect lighting cost. Treat both as experiments, not confirmed fixes. A separate review complaint about heavy motion blur has no in-game report of a toggle that we can confirm β€” if you find one in the options, trust the menu over this page and we'll update.

Single Reports We're Watching (Unconfirmed)

These each have one forum report as of July 20 β€” noted here so you know you're not alone, but not yet patterns:

  • Crash when starting a new game (reported day one; no reply yet in the review).
  • Cooking pot stuck on "Potatoes" β€” switching recipes to Stew doesn't take; the player already tried rebuilding the chimney and verifying files without luck.
  • Black wall blocking the gate at the cheapest tavern, where the delivery courier comes through β€” NPCs pass, the player can't.
  • The church monster can end up stuck idling in the village if you flee from it.
  • Missing NPC dialogue subtitles, which matters because dialogue hands out side quests.

If any of these hits you, a forum report helps β€” the developer answers threads directly (often same-day) and V1.0.3's notes even include fixed "timeouts on bug reports," i.e. the in-game reporting tool itself got a fix.

Not Bugs (Working as Intended)

  • The king's visits β€” the burping, the mug-defiling, all of it β€” are a feature with an achievement attached ("Kings-Cup: collect a mug full of the king's pee," 3.9% of players). If he's too much, his visits can be toggled in the chaos settings; knocking him out just turns the guards against you.
  • Weak passive income from taverns you're not standing in is the current design reality, not a malfunction β€” see the Beginner Guide for the developer's early-economy advice (work your own bar, tips first).
  • The Tavern Inspector has no off switch β€” much requested, currently intended.
