Pih 2 Beginner Guide: One-Hit-Kill Loop, Weapons & How to Clear Levels

How Pih 2 actually works: the one-hit-kill rules, collecting every item to finish a level, the weapons, difficulty and points, why sniping stops working, and the fix for the game not launching.

Quick Answer: A level in Pih 2 ends when you have collected every item in it, not when you have killed every pih. Watch the "Items Collected" counter bottom-left. One hit kills you and one hit kills them, so the game is about learning each level and each enemy, dying once, and retrying instantly. Move deliberately, use the Shotgun for crowds, and expect later levels to spawn pihs right as you reach them.

Assembled from the Steam store page, official screenshots, the developer's patch notes and forum replies, and player reviews, linked inline. Item counts are read off in-game screenshots; tactics drawn from reviews are marked as community-tested.

The Two Rules

Everything in Pih 2 comes from two facts:

  • One hit kills you. Touch a pih, get hit by its attack, or crash a vehicle, and the run resets you to the level's last checkpoint.
  • One hit kills the pih. Whatever you are holding drops any normal pih in a single shot.

Because both sides die instantly, the game is not about survival stats β€” it is about knowledge. You will die to a new enemy once, learn what it does, and beat it the next time. Deaths are cheap and respawns are instant, so treat each one as a scouting run rather than a failure.

Clearing a Level: Collect Everything

The objective is the Items Collected counter in the bottom-left. Every level is seeded with a fixed number of collectibles β€” the small glowing gems scattered across the map β€” and the level is done when you have them all. Counts are not consistent: in-game screenshots show levels asking for 42, 62, 83, 95, even 186 items.

That reframes the pihs. They are obstacles standing between you and the collectibles, not a kill quota. Clear the pihs in your path, grab the gems, and keep moving toward the parts of the map you have not swept. On bigger levels the collectibles are the map you should be reading, not the enemies.

Weapons

You start with the Pihstol, the basic sidearm. Beyond it, players report:

  • A Shotgun β€” kills an entire row of pihs in one blast, the tool for when a group rushes you at once.
  • A sniper β€” good for picking off pihs at range early on. One reviewer's warning: it gets answered later (see below).

The developer added difficulty settings and a points system to Pih 2 that the first game lacked, so how punishing the game feels is partly your choice. If you want a gentler introduction, start on a lower difficulty and move up once the enemy roster is familiar.

Why You Can't Just Snipe Everything

An experienced reviewer flagged the one tactical trap worth knowing early: later levels only spawn pihs as you get close to them. Early on you can stand back and snipe a level clear. Later, the pihs are not there to shoot until you have already walked into their range β€” so the safe long-distance approach stops working and you are forced into the one-hit-kill zone. Plan to move through later levels, not around them.

The Vehicle Levels Are a Different Game

Some levels hand you a boat or a hot-air balloon, and the store page is honest about them: "Are they easy to drive? No. Will you crash them into things? Constantly." The balloon first shows up in Season 2. These sections killed a lot of players at launch because the controls were rough β€” but the developer patched them on August 5, and there is a confirmed control scheme now. Because a vehicle crash is still a one-hit death, the vehicle levels are worth reading up on separately: see the Vehicle & Controls Guide.

If the Game Won't Launch

The most common launch problem is not a hardware issue β€” it is Windows Smart App Control blocking the game from starting. The developer's own reply to a "Game wont start" thread points there: turn Smart App Control off in Windows Security under App & browser control, and confirm the cause from another source too, as they suggested. The developer answers forum threads within hours, so if that does not fix it, posting your issue is a fast path to help.

First-Hour Checklist

  • Read the item counter, not the enemy count. The level ends when items hit maximum. Sweep the map's edges for stragglers.
  • Keep the Shotgun for crowds. One shot, one row of pihs.
  • Die on purpose to learn. A first death to a new pih is a free lesson; the respawn is instant.
  • Slow down in later levels. Pihs spawn on approach, so a corner you "cleared" from range may not have been clear.
  • Expect the vehicles to fight you. They are meant to be clumsy β€” learn the bindings before the timed parts.
